Changes at EPU (Natal)

The Education Policy Unit (Natal) is making some big changes.

On 31 December 2004, EPU (Natal) closes its operation to merge with its sister organisation, the Centre for Education Policy Development (CEPD), based in Johannesburg. Then, on 1 January 2005, all EPU's assets, liabilities and staff are being transferred to CEPD, which opens a new branch office in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal province. This transfer of employment refers to the research team of Julie Douglas, Pholoho Morojele and Sandile Mbokazi, the office manager Thabile Xulu, and librarian Pamela Sankaran.

Jenni Karlsson, who was director of EPU (Natal) for eight years from 1997-2004, will not be following EPU's staff to join CEPD. She has taken up a permanent academic appointment in the School of Education Studies, Education Faculty, University of KwaZulu-Natal. She can continue to be contacted at karlsson@ukzn.ac.za

History: The Education Policy Unit (Natal) was a not-for-profit education research and advocacy NGO located on the Edgewood Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The Unit was founded in 1987 by the National Education Co-ordinating Committee (NECC) and the former University of Natal, and closed its doors after 17 years to merge with the Centre for Education Policy Development (CEPD) at the end of 2004. In-print publications of the former EPU (Natal) can be brought through CEPD.
